Carson began his legal career working as a case manager for the multi-state plaintiff's firm Beltz & Ruth prior to law school. Throughout law school, he worked as a research assistant in the torts department at Campbell, served as a pro bono extern at the Raleigh firm of Everett, Gaskins, Hancock, LLP, and clerked with Baddour, Parker & Hine, P.C. and the Whitley Law Firm. After earning his law degree, he opened a civil litigation practice focusing on personal injury claims, contract disputes, and real property disputes.
Carson is a native of Saint Petersburg, Florida and he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he majored in Business Administration. Carson went to law school at Campbell University where he concentrated on trial advocacy. Throughout law school, he was selected to be a member of the school's national moot court and negotiations teams. Upon graduation, he was honored for his contributions to Campbell's advocacy program with induction into the prestigious Order of the Barristers.
Carson's better half is Ashley Lovegrove, a hunter jumper equestrian trainer locally. They live in Weymouth Heights and share a white labrador retriever named Riley. Carson is a member of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Country Club of North Carolina. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, playing golf and tennis, hiking, and landscaping.

- Carson routinely assists low-income individuals in need of legal assistance through his relationship with Legal Aid of North Carolina.
